Diego Lavagnino Bio

I am Diego Andrés López Lavagnino from Guatemala City, where I currently reside. I am a Visual Artist specialized in the areas of painting, sculpture, drawing, engraving and photography. I studied Visual Arts at “Centro Cultural Municipal” and History at “Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala”. From an early age, drawing and painting captured my imagination. During my adolescence, I experimented with empirical works, but it was at the age of twenty-one that I immersed myself in painting courses. My passion led me to study Visual Arts and specialize in Sculpture for eight years.

My works cover a wide range of themes, each in tune with the specific artistic project. I explore human nature from multiple perspectives: the social, emotions, personal experiences, sexuality and religion. My meticulous and perfectionist approach is reflected in unique projects, where my self-portrait is intertwined with the general theme. I use both traditional techniques (oil, acrylic, charcoal, pencil) and new ones (digital art, photomontage). In addition, I sometimes complement my works with poetic thoughts, creating an intimate connection with the viewer.

The diversity of opinions that my works generate is enriching. My work
is characterized by its organization and elaboration, and goes beyond the visual:
it also invites reflection through the written word. I have no specific artistic influences; rather, I immerse myself in the history of art, appreciating expressions from literature to film and comics. Each artist has his or her unique perspective, shaped by the context in which he or she lived. My artistic evolution has been drastic. The constant search for knowledge has led me to explore current trends, such as virtuality, artificial intelligence and the infinite possibilities of photography, without abandoning traditional techniques.

My achievements include exhibitions at Galería Abierta in Guatemala (2021), publications in magazines such as “Iguales” (This is Latinoamerica) in Mexico (No. 4, 2021) and “Hecho Arte” in Piura, Peru (Issue No. 2, 2021). In addition, I was part of the Latin American Magazine “Espejo Humeante” with the theme “Noir” (No. 13, Mexico, 2022). I also had the honor of being nominated for Best Photography at “Festival Poporopo de Occidente 2022”.
